Some people claim that schooling is no longer necessary, since more and more information is accessible, such as on the Internet. However, I do believe that the role of teacher is still essential in modern education.
Teachers used to be told what to teach, and how to teach it and they were expected to focus on equipping students with enough knowledge as the syllabus told. But in today's world Of education, a teacher's role is quite multifaceted. Their job is to counsel students,help them learn how to use their knowledge and integrate it into their lives so they will be valuable members of society. That is because school is not only a platform to impart knowledge any more but also a stage to educate an individual about values and attitudes etc. Studying and living in an environment where students will be encouraged by their teachers and be accompanied by their peers benefits them in a way that no other method could compete so far. At school, students are more likely to know how to be themselves while fitting in a group, and develop their critical thinking while learning to take advice from others.
It is true that the Internet is a master key to almost all the knowledge available. So a good understanding Of computer technology Will give students an edge in searching for and making use of the information for their studies, But when students are well exposed to all kinds of information provided by the huge database of the Internet, it is the judgment they learn from teachers that helps them distinguish between the goodness and the evilness.
Therefore, while the digital age has had some good influence to the younger generation,when it comes to education, teachers are and will always be playing the leading role.

When it comes to the necessity of teachers in the current era, some people argue that they are less important because students have other sources of information, but I cannot agree with this opinion.
To begin with, knowledge of teachers is more authoritative. It is true that students could obtain knowledge from other sources, such as Internet. However, since everyone can post on websites and forums, it may be difficult for students to tell the difference between right and wrong when they encounter contradictory opinions. Thus, teachers are still necessary as a source of information since they have gained professional knowledge in advance.
In addition, teachers know how to teach students in a suitable way. Many students find it difficult when they begin to learn a new subject since they may never hear of it before. However, teachers, more often than not, will have an integrated plan of a subject and begin their teaching from some basic points to lower its difficulty for beginners. Therefore, following teachers who are potent to guide students to learn in a systematic way is more effective and efficient than other sources of information.
Furthermore, students can improve their practical skills with the help of teachers. For some subjects, such as chemistry and physics, students need to do some experiments in order to deepen the understanding of some phenomena. Without experienced teachers, students may face danger since they just know the process of experiments theoretically but do not have practical experience. For example, chemical explosions may happen if students wrongly put some materials together.
To sum up, teachers still function as a crucial source of information, considering their authoritative knowledge, systematic ways of teaching, and practical skills.

Some people hold the opinion that the main purpose of teachers’ existence is to offer information. However, students in current society can have access to amounts of information, so teachers are not as significant as before. I totally disagree with this statement.
The Internet provides students with abundant information and makes the process of obtaining information more efficient , convenient and interesting and in this sense, teachers seems dispensable. For example, if a student wants to know the history of French, he can easily find sufficient information, which ranges from vivid pictures to profound paper. Nevertheless, only with teachers, can students gain a better understanding of the knowledge. That is to say, teachers can select the most suitable information, no matter where the information comes from and employ different strategies suited to the particular group of pupils.
Apart from the most obvious function of teachers discussed above, teachers play a key role in moral education and social skills learning. The competition in modern society is so fierce that only equipping with academic knowledge is not adequate. Under the guidance of teachers, students can understand how to behave properly and become productive members of society. The same is true for social skills. If a student is rich in knowledge but weak in social skills, there is little possibility for him/she to become well-adjusted adults.
To sum up, although the advent of modern technology brings about ample information for students, students require more direction in terms of standard of upright conduct and social skills, so the role of teacher is less likely to be replaced.
