春秋時期，吳國和越國經常互相打仗。兩國的人民也都將對方視為仇人。有一次，兩國的.人恰巧共同坐一艘船渡河。船剛開的時候，他們在船上互相瞪著對方，一副要打架的樣子。但是船開到河中央的時候，突然遇到了大風雨，眼見船就要翻了，為了保住性命，他們顧不得彼此的仇恨，紛紛互相救助，并且合力穩定船身，才逃過這場天災，而安全到達河的對岸。
