　　honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen.

　　today，we are gathering here to discuss a very hot issue.

　　how to find harmony in a new age between man and nature? where modernscience and technology are concerned i am only a layman i have to say.

　　however, living in this "new age" , seeing my dear ones suffering fromrespiratory diseases from time to time, finding the beautiful colors of greenand blue are being replaced by that of gray and pale, and realizing that ourmother planet is getting more and more unhealthy; i can't help trying to offermy idea and my trivial efforts to look for the answer of the question.

　　as the ancient greek oracle goes: know thyself.

　　i think in answering this above-mentioned question, this precondition isalso very important.

　　who are we? this is a question, which should be answered not only by thosespecialists, but also by every one of human beings.

　　some people may proudly say: we are the masters of nature.

　　it is true that the idea of "man can conquer nature" has dominated people'smind for years, and it is true, man has kept acting like a master and doingwhatever things he wants for thousands of years.

　　however, as the consequence of this kind of "leadership" , now the "master"seems to be confronted with problems that are far beyond his control.

　　facts are really very ample.

　　the green house effect leaves islands and cities along the coast, such asthis oriental pearl-shanghai, in danger of the disaster of being drowned; theholes of the ozone layer make the earth less suitable to live for some creaturesincluding human beings; the phenomena of el nino and la nina leave the land withserious flood and drought, and the diseases, caused by pollution, are increasingat an incredible speed.

　　seeing all these facts, can we still ignore the counterattack of nature? weare not the masters of nature.

　　facing all the disasters made by ourselves, we, mankind as a whole shouldrealize that we are just a normal member of the big family of nature.

　　any mistreatment towards nature will meet only with the revenge fromher.

　　by saying so, i do not mean we should give a sudden stop to anydevelopment.

　　because that will result in a threat to the existence of human society.

　　i mean we should treat nature equally, leaving the chance of existence anddevelopment to nature as we are obtaining the same thing, and thus we will getthe situation of win-win.

　　i am very pleased to find that now more and more people, from every cornerof the planet, have come to realize that harmony with nature is the only way touniversal and continuous progress and prosperity.

　　and i think that is why we come here from all over the country to discussthis topic today.

　　"our destiny offers, not the cup of despair, but the chalice ofopportunity." the future is not ours to see of course.

　　however, by seizing firmly the opportunities, by knowing clearly aboutourselves, we, human beings, can doubtlessly achieve the real harmony withnature!

　　As we all know，the environmemt around us is getting worse andworse .In some places，we can't see fish swimming in the river or trees on thehills. Some people even have no clean water to drink.

　　So I think we must do something to protect the environment. But what can wedo?How to protect our environmemt ?For example，we can go to school on foot or bybike .

　　we can use shopping baskets not plastic bags when we go shopping，and we canuse both sides of the paper when we write .In a word，if everyone pays moreattention to our environment，there will be less pollution and our life will bebetter.

　　“There is only one earth”，I hope everyone will protect our environmentwell.

　　眾所周知，我們周圍的環境越來越差，在一些地方，我們看不見魚在河里游泳或在山上爬樹。有些人甚至沒有干凈的水喝。

　　As far as I know,river pollution exist so many places in our country.Agreat deal of dead fish can be found floating on the surface of the riverbecause of the serious pollution.Besides river pollution,there are also airpollution,soil pollution and so on.They have done great harm to humanlives.Fortunately,more and more people have come to realize how serious theproblem is.The government has begun to take measures to fight againstpollution.But there is still a long way to go.We should take care of our earthand try our best to win the buttle against pollutin.

　　In modern society, we tend to become more and more aware of our livingenvironment or physical environment, because we are not clean as before. So manypeople now choose their house as to its environment but not its location andexpenses to afford it. As we all know, the environment pollution is more andmore serious during these years, what we could do is to make great efforts inprotecting environment gradually. As to government pollution, as to commonpeople. We also try to protect it and make it remain clean. Although we havemanaged to protect the environment to a certain extent. It is still a very longway to go. Protect our enviorment The earth is our home,we must take care ofit.We shoule make a less pollution as we know everybody in north America makes1000 kilograms of the garbage everyday. Most of it is packaging Most of garbageturns into soil but not to plastic,plastic keepsfor many years it will polluteour environment so we shouldn’t waste thing we should make some things forrecycling .

I don?t know who wrote these words, but I?vealways liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it tobe. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed ,we reapa good harvest. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.

　　We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. Toanswer it, first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youthis not a time of life, it?s a state of mind. It?s not a matter of rosy cheeks,red lips or supple knees. It?s the matter of the will. It?s the freshness of thedeep spring of life.

　　Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of theappetite , for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60more than a boy of 20 . Nobody grows old merely by a number of years . We growold by deserting our ideals. Years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasmwrinkles the soul . Worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns thespirit back to dust .

　　Whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ?s heart the lure ofwonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what?s next and the joy of the gameof living . In the center of your heart and my heart there?s a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and powerfrom men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .

　　Three year ago, I weighed more than 100 hundred kilograms which causedsignificant embarrassment and frustration in my life. Like always failing my P.Eexaminations, like always being laughed at by girls, like being terrified tospeak in public. It was my grandmother’s encouragement that revived from mypassive attitude to become confident in myself. She said “ My dear, if you can’tchange you figure, why not treat it as your own style. So I began to cautiouslyemploy the new way of thinking. By choosing to change my outlook on life, Ideveloped the confidence to make a difference and finally I found a totally newworld.
